Key Lessons from the Episode
The most important things to take away
Don't underestimate the indoctrination of years of school and societal expectations. Some people want a simple, predictable job without bringing their full selves to work.
"There are people who want that job. They want that job because they don’t want to be on the hook. They don’t want to bring the full self to work. They don’t want, they because they have been brainwashed into believing that it is not possible to get more than that out of work."
When starting a project, be clear about where the hard part is and when you will stop. Don't hold onto something just because it was once valuable to you.
"I am not going to be running this thing in 40 years, for sure."
Build a flywheel that earns you the benefit of the doubt and makes your project better over time.
"The flywheel that I have found is the most useful. Is the one that earns you the benefit of the doubt, which gets you more benefit of the doubt, which gets you more benefit of the doubt."
Resistance is real. Identify the hard thing that needs to happen for your project to succeed and break it down into manageable steps.
"What are the steps to make that hard thing happen?"
You don't need more time; you just need to decide.
"Read the shortest blog post I ever wrote: 'You don’t need more time. You just need to decide.'"
